Titus 2:11 (NIV)- For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men.
If you go along with the idea that God only saves professing Christians- then by default, you are accepting the lie that God has created billions of humans for Hell, by not predestining them to be born into the right era, social class, race, culture or country.
Ultimately, an exclusivistic interpretation of John 14:6 is nothing but a projection of a veiled arrogance that hides behind a religious philosophy (or lack thereof) that superficially turns the Omniscient God of Love-who desires for all to be saved (1Tim. 2:4) into a big, capricious child who blames others for an imposed condemnation upon the masses of countless ages.
John 14:6 (ESV) Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.“
John 14:6 is Absolutely True- but the exclusivistic interpretation that so many impose upon the text is absolutely wrong. Let us not forget that John 14 begins with Lord Jesus saying the following:
“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (vs. 1-2)
You would think that the Lord’s teachings would be self-explanatory… In the Father’s House (Heaven?) THERE ARE MANY ROOMS…
Christ prepares A ROOM for His disciples.
Unfortunately it is common for us humans to project our own agendas- oftentimes innocently- by means of conditioned “reasoning” and circular arguments that sound valid to those who are seeking to validate their beliefs without challenge.
There is only ONE WAY- The underlying LOGOS of God that predates all “religions,” including the 40,000 denominations (or religions) that makes up today’s Christianity.
The LOGOS of God is perfectly known in YESHUA- but that doesn’t mean that every other Faith in existence since the dawn of humankind is devoid of Him.
Christ is THE Way, the Dharma, the Natural Law- the Word that explains in a person (Christ) the indescribable ONE.
The ONLY reason why so many so-called “Christians” are comfortable with notions of religious exclusivism is because it satisfies their social and tribal instincts, and NOT because they actually understand authentic Christianity.
Authentic Christianity is not found in the endless struggle of trying to interpret Scripture with Scripture. Authentic Christianity is found in the disciplic intepretive lens that the Apostles passed down by disciplic succession.
The real struggle is not in trying to interpret the Scriptures… The real struggle is in dicephering and discerning between authentic interpretations of the Apostolic Faith and the phony ones.
Those who use John 14:6 as a point of reference to promote an exclusivistic soteriology based on the hope of heaven (and nothing else), simply demonstrate that their interpretation is based on a lack of disciplic training and basic knowledge of God’s transcendental attributes.
Christianity is a disciplic religion- not a buffet of ideas to choose from according to our fantastical fancies. Read the Apostolic Fathers- the DIRECT disciples of the Apostles.
Only THEN will you espouse the right interpretation of John 14:6 and the rest of the Scriptures.
