Western Christians feel great pressure from societal expectations and post-colonial guilt.
It seems that many voices are working in conjunction, not only to grow their own religious philosophies, but also to stifle the Christian claim that Lord Jesus is THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life. The global strategy seems to be twofold:
1. Convince Christians that “The Way” (Acts 9:2) is but a lane in a broad highway to God.
2. That Christianity is incomplete because it does not elaborate on spiritual processes (in comparison to other religions) and/or the afterlife.
These two propositions are at the foreground of almost every college institution and behind almost every program in the media. Strengthening these two propositions are the almost incalculable amounts of “unchurched” Christians who are no longer associated with a particular denomination or who no longer attend church.
The main reasons why there is a great fallout in the churches is because people are spiritually and philosophically dissatisfied. Most “unchurched” Christians know by instinct that there is more to the spiritual journey than what is currently being taught in the churches and that “God is More” than our denominational claims.
So YES!- the “unchurched” are correct. God is INDEED MORE! They are also correct in regards to the spiritual vacuity in the churches. These two truths are the fruit of a disciplic religion that for the most part, left its origins in order to have harmony with worldly rule and scholastic pride.
But thanks to the writings of the Apostles and their disciples, today each Christian can re-discover for themselves the nectar that Lord Jesus left behind, and make the necessary changes TODAY in order to experience the true outcome of Christ’s devotional formula.
Once the disciple of Christ comes to truly grasp the teachings of Lord Jesus through earnest devotion, the disciple then comes to the realization that just as each denomination is a “lane” in the High-WAY, so also each Natural Religion in the world is sustained by the same LOGOS. Each Natural Religion in the world is a “lane” in the LOGOS of God. (Acts 17)
When Lord Jesus says that He is THE Way, THE Truth, and THE Life- He is speaking a UNIVERSAL TRUTH- that He is the clearest and highest manifestation of the underlying Truth that under-girds every Natural Religion that earnestly seeks to return to Godhead.
The first lesson that my disciples learn is that Christianity is NO THREAT to any Natural Religion. Sharing the Good News is not a matter of arguing with people! Sharing the Good News is exactly that- GOOD NEWS! And our Good News (Gospel) is that the aspirations and desire of every godly person that has ever existed has become truth and guaranteed in Lord Jesus by His Resurrection from the dead.
This message is shared in friendship and deference- not as a statement to seek new converts (we don’t make converts, we make disciples) but as an ambassadorial statement of friendship and allegiance to others who are earnestly seeking harmony with God.
Lord Jesus clearly teaches that “those who are not against us are for us,” and that “anyone who gives a glass of cold water to one of these little ones, simply because they are my disciples, will certainly reap their reward.” (Mark 9:40-41)
The second lesson that I teach my disciples is that in this age of confusion and quarrel, that we MUST return to focusing on the chanting of God’s Holy Names (Gen. 4:26) so that we might become conscious of Christ’s presence in the midst of His disciples, and experience the power of God in our lives.
Christian humility and peace comes as a result of experiential knowledge and spiritual maturity. This can only happen by learning and earnestly putting into practice the teachings of Lord Jesus under a bonafide Pastor who will show you the Way, the Truth and the Life towards THE Way, THE Truth and THE Life.
Yes, the unchurched are correct…and we have the solution.
