Exodus 3:14- God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.'”
Western Theology has failed in trying to pin down the Creator by human descriptives and definitions.
For instance, it is common to catalogue God’s attributes as either “communicable” or “incommunicable.” In other words, we classify God’s attributes as either “recognizable” from a human standpoint, or “unrecognizable” from our fallen perspective.
Well… the reality is that “incommunicable” qualities can be rationally catalogued as “speculative.”Most of these catalogued qualities are the result of human projections based on rational deduction.
The Eastern Church has always described God’s qualities through “Negative” language based on the IMAGO DEI.
Theologically speaking, if we’re going to study and catalogue God, then we can only do so by studying and recognizing our deficiencies in the knowledge that He is what we are not.
In other words, God is NOT limited.
God is NOT mortal.
God is NOT weak.
God is NOT unintelligent.
God is NOT limited by gender.
God is NOT hateful.
God is NOT uni-present.
God is NOT uni-dimensional.
God is NOT unattractive.
God is NOT depressed, stressed, anxious, etc. etc. etc.
The divine Name of God “I AM” (Yehovah) encapsulates this Supreme and un-graspable Greatness of the Divine’s Essence. The Name that God has given Himself transcends any appellation or descriptive that we can project upon Him.
God IS… and that is all that matters.
Yes! Amen to that. Thank you for sharing!

Love this! Humans are such analytical beings with such a need to define and classify everything. But God is the CREATOR of all the systems and definintions that could ever possibly be imaged or dreamed up by tiny human minds. Trying to put Him into our own man made boxes is a recipe for despair and disaster because we will NEVER be able to grasp His fullness! The peace of knowing God comes from accepting that we can never know, that God JUST IS! Yes!! 🙂 It’s an blessed honor when he reveals aspects of Himself to us. But we will NEVER fully grasp His immensity.
