James 4:4 (NIV) You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
Christians must be careful to not fall victim of the political mantra that claims to defend Western or American CULTURE. The reality is that we have been desensitized and indoctrinated by the media through our favorite TV shows and movies.
If one were to judge by what is served to us as “entertainment,” we would have to conclude that the “culture of the country” is akin to abortion, gay marriage, drugs, alcoholism, licentiousness, obscenity, nudity with all forms of sexual innuendo, lack of deference to authority, lack of love for parents, self-centeredness, selfishness and greed.
Christians forget that the Way of Christ stands in counter-distinction to the current stream of Western “culture.”
Western culture oftentimes confuses licentiousness with freedom. To be a Christian is to be free from sin in order to live God-pleasing lives.
The Christianity of Christ is not “Western” in any way, and as long as we Christians stand in support of the current stream of Western Culture, we stand in juxtaposition to the teachings of the Christ.
Let us be aware that to harbor an appreciation for a culture that stands in juxtaposition to the teachings of Christ is idolatry.
One can’t be a DISCIPLE of Christ and be entertained by immorality, greed and lies.
The Christian is required to love the LORD his God with all of his heart, mind and strength. (Dt. 6:4-5) This means, that our level of DEVOTION to God must be ALL-ENCOMPASSING.
1 Cor. 10:31- So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
Christians are not to defend a culture that stands against the will of the King of Kings. Beware that by actively supporting a culture of death, that you lose your own soul. (Mark 8:36)
The Christianity of Christ is a radical way of DETACHMENT to the passing things of this world and ATTACHMENT only to the Christ, for the glory of God the Father.
