MATTHEW 25:41 (ESV) “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.”
I recently heard a story of a Pastor who was blamed by a parent of a handicap child for allegedly scaring her through a sermon in which Lord Jesus teaches on the doctrine of HELL…
The Pastor’s response to the parent was, “Well, have you ever read through the New Testament?” The parent admitted to had never done so.
So the Pastor responded:
“Well then, how do you presume to tell me how I should preach? I preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and that includes HELL!”
If this story is true, I would have to agree with the Pastor. Yes, he was “insensitive” by today’s Western standards… but Truth hurts, especially when its truth we do not want to hear.
As a Bible student for most of my life, I know for a fact that Jesus spoke directly about going to Hell more than He spoke about going to “Heaven.” The reason for that is because the Gospel (or Good News) is HOPE for the downtrodden, the persecuted, the disenfranchised and the poor. (Matthew 11:5)
The Gospel is the Good News that through the Resurrection of Christ, God has guaranteed a day in which He will Judge the World through the Man He has appointed and give JUSTICE to the victims of corrupt politicians, the greedy wealthy and evil religionists.
Acts 17:31- For He (God) has set a day when He will judge the world with justice by the Man He has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.
The message of HELL is part of the Good News because it gives HOPE to the oppressed and persecuted that one day, the “lawless” will be held accountable and punished for their crimes… but that the righteous will be publicly recompensed.
No one who is looking forward to the Kingdom of God and actively seeking it has any reason to fear Hell.
The spiritual reality of Hell is a reason to praise God for His eternal attribute of JUSTICE.
Anyone who has a problem with the doctrine of Hell either does not understand it, or is living in the delusion that they will not be held accountable by God for their crimes against righteousness.
Thank God for Hell! One day the demons, the Principalities and Powers of the air, and all evil people will be repaid for their crimes against God and the righteous. (Isaiah 24)
Rather than shunning the truth of Hell- realize that God is JUST, and that if you do not repent from your unrighteousness and rebellion against the Creator, that He will ultimately have no choice but to send you where you want to be…
