Matthew 24:12-14 (NIV)- Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Yesterday I traveled to my daughter’s college to meet for a daddy-daughter coffee date.
While spending time together, she told me that she was supposed to cook for her friends and that she had taken out some chicken from the freezer. We’ve been moving towards vegetarianism for philosophical and spiritual reasons, but on occasion (especially when eating with Western friends) we eat fowl.
So… we went into the kitchen of her off-campus house and began to pull out the spices. We prepared curried-balsamic chicken with mushrooms, baked potatoes-n-carrots with ginger and pepper sauce, and brown basmati rice.
Oh yes… and we cooked all this while listening to music by the very talented Kirtan ensemble known as The Mayapuris. If you desire to have a listen, you can visit here.
Marisa’s friends arrived on time for dinner…and after some compliments about the festive aroma, we served the food and sat around the table like a family. I invited us to bow our heads and together we prayed my usual table prayer:
Dear heavenly Father, we bless you and give you thanks for these thy gifts which we receive from your bountiful goodness. We thank you our fellowship and we ask that you remind us of those in need, through Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.
Words cannot express the realizations I was experiencing. My dream was being fulfilled right before my eyes. The reformations that I long to see in the Church were blossoming right before me in an off-campus college house with three, very talented, educated, and philosophically deep 20-year-olds!
As we perused through chit-chatting themes, we finally landed on my favorite topic: THE TRUE GOSPEL.
In a nutshell, I explained to them that the word GOSPEL in English comes from the Greek word εὐαγγέλιον (euangelion) which means “Good News.” We talked about how most Christians have been taught a distorted portion of the whole “Good News,” and that this has resulted in the lack of effectual power inherent to our modern common preaching.
In essence, Christianity is not a “religion” in the normal sense of the word. The way of Christ was never meant to be a national religion, or even a religion for everyone on the face of this planet. The Christianity of Christ is an Ambassadorial movement that proclaims that the hope of ALL NATIONS has been initiated in Christ’s resurrection.
The word CHRIST comes from the Greek Xristos which means “anointed.” When it refers to Lord Jesus, it is referring to his divinely appointed vocation as the King of Righteousness.
Yes, Lord Jesus Christ died for the sins of the whole world. Yes, Lord Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead… but he did not do these things so that we can become chubby-children with wings in heaven in lieu of hell!
No! As the firstborn and apex of the whole human race, Christ suffered on the Cross the end result of all our sinful actions and decisions, so that from him, there could be a New Cosmos of light without shadow of variation.
Since we absolutely know that Christ has risen from the grave, we also know that God will bring justice, peace and righteousness through His anointed King of Israel, the Son of David. All who turn from their sins against God and observe the divine laws of Nature (Dharma) will be judged rightly before the King of Righteousness, whether they are Christians or not.
John 5:29 (ESV)- Do not marvel at this, for an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear his voice and come out–those who have done what is good will rise to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be condemned.
When Lord Jesus said that he was “The Way, The Truth and The Life,” he was saying that in him, the desire of the nations was embodied in human form. (Haggai 2:7)
AND THIS IS GOOD NEWS that we are supposed to share with all Nations!
In fact, I pointed out that the feast and harmony we were experiencing at that moment was exactly what Christians used to do when partaking of Holy Communion.
During the first century of the Church’s existence, the disciples would have Agape or Love Feasts in which people brought food from their respective homes and shared it with one another. While feasting, the Christians sang hymns, heard prophetic words, spoke glossolalia, prayed for one another and performed miracles until all had partaken of the Holy Sacrament of Bread and Wine in thanksgiving.
In other words, the Apostles and their disciples celebrated the Good News of Christ’s resurrection every Sunday! His Resurrection “sealed the deal.” The Kingdom of God was in the world…even in their midst in seed form! The Kingdom of Heaven had been initiated, and their love for one another was the evidence to the Nations of this! In fact, the world would know that they were Ambassadors of Christ because of their love for one another! (John 13:35)
The Good News gets even better! If you want to be part of God’s effort to bring His Kingdom to full realization, you can follow Lord Christ and partner with him as his disciple, and while carrying your cross, live as an ambassador of Christ to the whole creation.
Your reward for following him?? To rule the Nations with him; not as despots, but as servants and purveyors of divine righteousness, justice and peace. If you believe in Christ Jesus and surrender to his cause, then you will be given the right to be an inheritor of God as his child, in the truest sense of the word.
……….As we finished our meal, we were caught up in a blissful feeling. It was as if our souls were confirming the Truth that set us free from the shackles of a false and pretentious “Gospel” of going to heaven in lieu of hell.
Once the Christian Church begins to live this true Gospel… the world will once again flood our sanctuaries with baptismal songs of Hallelujahs and Amens!
The Word of God that sustains and holds all things together, died on the cross and resurrected in order to bring all things (including himself) into full surrender and subjection to the Father… The God Most High . (1 Corinthians 15:28)
Through Christ, God put an end to the era of animal sacrifices and made available the easiest form of attaining salvation in this evil age of quarrel, hypocrisy and greed. To attain salvation, all one has to do is simply call on the Name of the Lord!
Acts 2:21 (NIV)- And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
The Way is here. The Truth has arrived. The Life is real…
His Name is Jesus Christ, the King of Glory! Hallelujah!
This is the Good News!! Let us celebrate!!! Hallelujah!
