Matthew 28:18-19 (ESV) And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit… “
Lord Jesus did not send His disciples to conquer the Nations. He sent them to make disciples of all Nations.
Once you realize this, your whole perspective in life and the way that you see others will change.
The main question we should ask ourselves is not whether others are “saved” or not, but rather, whether WE are true disciples of Lord Jesus. True Christianity is not a religion for the masses…or even for WHOLE Nations to accept (especially not forcefully!).
Christianity at its core is a DISCIPLIC RELIGION that is ambassadorial in its essence and purpose. Our MISSION from God is to MAKE FRIENDS through the love of Christ and the example of our love for one another… (which is another topic to deal with)
2 Corinthians 5:20 (NIV)- We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
The Way of Christ is a participation in His mission from the Supreme Personality of the Godhead to bring true and everlasting JUSTICE to the Nations who cry out to God day and night for Him to make things right.
God has given evidence of this truth by raising Lord Jesus from the dead.
Lord Jesus will certainly return and bring justice to all who seek after God and worship Him in spirit and truth. This is the message of the “Gospel,” which means, “Good News.”
The crucifixion and resurrection of Christ were the means through which God accomplished many things… especially the assured “salvation” of His whole creation. The message of the Gospel (Good News) is not “accept Jesus or else,” but rather, the GOOD NEWS that God in Christ has fulfilled the HOPE OF THE NATIONS. (Matthew 12:21)
Christianity’s mission is to spread and live “the Good News” of God through Christ and to bring true, everlasting HOPE to all who seek after God with their whole soul, mind and strength- regardless of ethnic tradition or spiritual insight. (please read Acts 17)
True Christian disciples love everyone, embrace everyone, accept everyone, and respect everyone… because that is what “ambassadors” do. Ambassadors are not commissioned to the Nations in order to condemn them, or in order to make enemies.
In fact, ambassadors do not try to change Nations, but rather, to establish amicable relationships based on respect and mutual appreciation.
Of course…if any should desire to take up their cross and follow Lord Jesus, they are embraced through Holy Baptism and brought into Christ’s “little flock.” Of course, we preach the FULLNESS of assured “salvation” in Christ… but we do this with love and also with a humble attitude, recognizing that God indeed LOVES all Nations and that He reveals Himself to all who seek Him in spirit and truth. (Please read John 4)
The disciples of Christ are bearers of “Good News” to all that one day the “Desire of the Nations” will come with healing in His wings. (Haggai 2:7)
This is what it means to be a Christian and an ambassador of the Kingdom.–jcr
