Did you know that Jesus Christ has CANCER?

The Bible refers to the Church as the body of Christ. The Apostle Paul goes to great lengths to teach that all the members of that body, share the same status. St. Paul says in 1Corinthians 12:11-12,

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body-whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free-and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.”

And yet, according to some estimates, the Church has over 40,000 “Christian” denominations.

The Church is supposed to be “the light of the world,” (Matthew 5:14) and yet, as a people, we are more comparable to a broken light bulb that has been shattered all over the kitchen floor.

Just like we cannot put the pieces of a light bulb together, in the same manner, we cannot put together our denominations.

But lets make a clarification lest we get confused… Denominations are not the body of Christ… Only baptized Christians are. (1 Cor. 12:27) And although denominational divisions are practically irreparable, the body of Christ, CAN be repaired and restored.

But Jesus Christ has CANCER. Let me explain…

The denominationalism that divides us is simply a symptom of a deeper, more sinister problem.

The online Google dictionary defines the word “Clique” in the following manner:

Clique: a small group of people, with shared interests or other features in common, who spend time together and do not readily allow others to join them.

The root of our divisions as a “Chosen People” and a “Nation of Priests” (1 Peter 2:9) is found in the smallest of congregations. At the base of every congregational clique there is one common foundation made up of two basic ingredients:

There is the PRIDE of a “team spirit” that bonds its members through common interests, that fundamentally serve as smokescreens for a deeply rooted, superiority complex.

Remember the “cool kids” from school? Its still them…just older. Cliques are usually made up of narcissists and the pets who adore them. The pets adore them in the hope of being rewarded with recognition, while the narcissists wallow in the fantasy that they are truly better, or smarter, or more educated, or more talented, or prettier, or hunkier, or… more spiritual or godly.

Cliques are also made up of COWARDS. Cliques are not made up of people who are capable of standing in the gap against injustice by themselves and make real, fundamental differences in other people’s lives. Cliques are made up of cowards who seek safety in each other.

In order to exist as a congregational subgroup, the members of a clique need to constantly remind one another of how special they are through their shared, exclusive activities.

Cliques…are like sophisticated gangs, whose only existence serves to insulate their delusions of grandeur. You mess with one…you mess with all. This is why church divisions are usually done in groups… If one clique member leaves, most likely, others will follow.

Church cliques are not just impenetrable by the “plebes,” they’re almost indestructible. Notice that I said… almost, because church cliques (just like in High School) also have a weakness…

You see… cliques always compete for attention. They will not admit it… but
in their self-exclusion from the lesser “plebes,” they make themselves to stand out by their lack of substantial relationships with people outside of the clique. And that, makes the outsiders… jealous.

Instinctively, the clique finds strength in the knowledge that people desire to have fellowship with them. And so therefore, the more jealous people get around them, the stronger the clique becomes.

Most cliques are made up of non-confrontational, cowardly people who will leave the congregation, if the church holds them accountable for fostering an undercurrent, passive division.

The ONLY way to effectively combat and destroy a clique, is by entering a war of passive attrition, in which their clique is overshadowed by the existence of another one.

Since “clicky” pets are usually hungry for attention… eventually they will begin to shift to the more popular clique, in the hope that they are given fresh food for the ego. Eventually, the pet “owners” will begin to starve for the attention of their pets, leaving them no choice but to follow them to the new and improved clique.

Ah, but isn’t the formation of a new clique as evil or worse than keeping the old one around? YES… but only if your intention is to perpetuate a clique mindset. The goal here is to eliminate ALL CLIQUES by forming a new one that attempts to emulate the Apostolic Church.

The key to victory over worldly cliques in the church, is to form a clique that is founded upon true Apostolic, and radical LOVE.

The book of Acts 2: 44-47 describes the Church in the following manner:

“All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

In the Church of Jesus Christ, there is no place for cliques or acts of condescending service by the elites towards the plebes. Actually, there is no place in the Church of Jesus Christ for PREFERENTIAL TREATMENT. Everyone is equal…. TRULY EQUAL, in the Body of Christ. If this is so, how then can we treat certain individuals with preferential treatment? This type of treatment stands outside of the “royal law.” It is a terrible sin!!  James 2:8-9 says,

If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, “Love your neighbor as yourself,” you are doing right. But if you show favoritism, you sin and are convicted by the law as lawbreakers.

Someone might object by saying: “Ah… but are you saying that Christians cannot form bonds, based on common interests?” NO… The Bible says it, not me.

There should be only one common interest that bonds us as a people

Jesus Christ

And it takes radical, courageous people to love like Jesus Christ loved us- even to death on a Cross.

If your bond with a clique of a church, resides outside of the inclusive bounds of the GOSPEL, then your clique is just an instrument of Satan that foments divisions.
1 Corinthians 12:24-25 says:

“…But God has COMBINED the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, so that there should be NO DIVISION in the body, but that its parts should have EQUAL CONCERN for each other.”

What do you not understand by: “EQUAL CONCERN?”

If you’ve been able to read this article, then you should be able to reason out the meaning of “equal concern.” It is self-explanatory.

Once our “clicky,” Christian friends, see the divine power of love being shared EQUALLY in the congregation, they will either leave, or become part of the greater body of believers.

In order to save the greater Church of Jesus Christ…we must first extirpate the cancer of exclusive cliques in our local congregations. When we learn how to love one another in our local congregations, then we will be able to love our brothers and sisters of other denominations. But as long as we foment exclusive groups in our congregations, we can be sure that the our greater denominations, will continue to divide the body of Christ.

Once true, loving harmony has been restored, we will know what it means to be… THE CHRISTIAN NATION.
